Dr. Mark J. Doherty, DMD, MPH, CCHP created CMOHS,LLC, the first portable dental program in Massachusetts in 1981. As the Director and Administrator of the program, his vision was to create a "dental home" for children with underserved dental needs due to lack of Mass Health providers, transportation problems, incarceration or residential status. Today we also partner with the Tufts University Community Hygiene team in some areas and with Smart Smiles, a partnership with Boston University, Tufts University, Forsyth, and Harvard University in the Boston public school system. CMOHS also partners with Vineyard Smiles on Martha's Vineyard. CMOHS currently serves over 50 Department of Youth Service (DYS) facilities, over 55 Department of Social Service (DSS) and Special program Residential Facilities, the Boston Public Elementary school system , other schools and over 60 Head Start programs throughout the state of Massachusetts. The dentists bring their assistant and portable dental equipment into the programs, seeing one child at a time for minimal program disruption.They provide the following services as deemed necessary by the licenced dentist: exam, prophylaxis (cleaning), fluoride, preventive sealants, x-rays, oral hygiene instruction, restorative dentistry (fillings), pulpotomies (the start of root canals)other minor endo procedures (root canals), minor oral surgery, selected prosthodontics, minor periodontic (gum) procedures,and facilitated referrals to many private practices and Community Health Centers (CHCs). With 11 dentists currently on staff we are able to meet all of your scheduling needs Monday- Saturday, 9-5, with flexibility.
